Josep Guinovart (Barcelona, 1927 – 2007), an internationally recognized painter and engraver, is one of the most personal voices of the Spanish art arena. He was member of the “Dau al Set” group and one of the founders of the Tahull group.
Trained at the School of Arts and Crafts Llotja, his work goes through different stages, from the figurative, which includes social themes. Since 1957, Guinovart made works of collage, introducing used and natural materials into them.
Guinovart has been awarded with the Plastic Arts National Award by the Spanish government and by the Generalitat of Catalonia.
His work is in many museums and collections, in several countries, such as Casa de las Americas of Havana, Fine Arts Museum of Long Island, New York, Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona, Museum of Modern Art in Mexico DF, Guggenheim Museum of New York, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia of Madrid and Bocchum Museum in Germany.
Guinovart worked at Grupo Quince, and some of his works at COON ART were made there.
Grupo Quince was a studio and gallery, key within the scene graph contemporary Spanish that was born in the early 70's, responding to socio-cultural concerns of the moment as well as the emergence of artists experimenting with different printmaking techniques. For 14 years, “Grupo 15” provided a framework for the professional development of more than one hundred artists. Some of the artists who made their works in this studio were the artists of the movements "Dau al Set", "El Paso", Equipo Crónica, and many other internationally renowned that can be found at COON ART.
