Villalba, Darío

Darío Villalba (San Sebastián, 1939) is a leading Spanish artist, National Arts Award and member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando. Paintings, photographs, objects, installations and sculptures are all part of his art works.

Villalba studied at the School of Fine Arts of San Fernando and he completed his training in the workshop of André Lhote in Paris and Harvard University in London.

His work is featured in museums around the world: Metropolitan and Guggenheim of New York, Brussels Plasticarium Museum, IVAM of Valencia, Reina Sofia of Madrid, Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco, Rome Vatican Museum, Cleveland Museum of Modern Ohio Art, Musées Nationaux de France and Museum voor Schone Kunsten of Ostende, among others.

Villalba worked at Grupo Quince, and some of his works at COON ART gallery were made there.

Grupo Quince was a studio and gallery, key within the scene graph contemporary Spanish that was born in the early 70's, responding to socio-cultural concerns of the moment as well as the emergence of artists experimenting with different printmaking techniques. For 14 years, “Grupo 15” provided a framework for the professional development of more than one hundred artists. Some of the artists who made their works in this studio were the artists of the movements "Dau al Set", "El Paso", Equipo Crónica, and many other internationally renowned that can be found at COON ART.
